Kate Sutherland

With more than 40 years in the seed industry, Kate has been part of UMS from day one. Together with Stewart, she helped establish the business and played a central role across every stage of its growth, from business development, administration, marketing, and finance, through to breeding programs, Plant Breeders’ Rights (PBR) and trial work, export logistics, and international sales.

Kate’s passion for agriculture started early, growing up on a small dairy farm in Kent before studying Agricultural Science at the University of Wales. She has always loved the process of producing a quality product and bringing it to market, and values the down-to-earth people and seasonal challenges that make the ag industry so rewarding.

Outside of work, Kate’s greatest joy is her family, with four daughters and six grandchildren, alongside outdoor sports, gardening, and contributing to her local community. She is immensely proud of UMS and the way the team has continued to raise the bar, taking the company from its humble beginnings to a respected leader in the agricultural industry today.
