Sowing your lawn

Early to mid-autumn provides optimal conditions for seeding a new lawn. With milder air temperatures and warm soil, germination is encouraged before winter.

Follow these key steps for successful seeding:

  1. Weed Control: Eliminate competing weeds two weeks prior to seeding using a Weedkiller.
  2. Soil Preparation: Sow seeds in well-drained, firm, organic-rich soil. Consider using lawn top dressing for heavy clay or poor sandy soil.
  3. Measure and Calculate: Determine the seed quantity needed by measuring the area.
  4. Sow with Care: Create shallow furrows in straight lines, mixing seeds with a turf starter fertiliser (included in all UMS Lawn Blends) for better germination. Broadcast evenly, cross rake, and water.
  5. Watering Routine: Maintain soil moisture for the first 14–21 days, watering frequently if needed. Adjust watering as the grass establishes, reducing frequency but increasing volume.
