Continues to offer UMS’ Australian customers an exciting range of world-leading proprietary seed products.
UMS has been the exclusive supplier of Germinal varieties in Australia for over ten years, offering a world leading range of premium products to Australian growers.
Germinal is a sixth-generation family company with a proud 200-year heritage of research and development, making it a world leader in plant breeding innovation. Germinal’s affiliate research centre, IBERS (The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Science at Aberystwyth University in Wales, UK), is the oldest ryegrass breeder in the world and like UMS, Germinal is a family-owned and operated business that places research and development at the centre of everything it does.
“Our relationship with Germinal Seeds and its high-quality product range continues to be a perfect fit with our existing proprietary range,” says David Lockhart, General Manager of UMS.
“The partnership with Germinal provides UMS with leading advances in plant breeding techniques and innovative research into plant physiology and its relationship to factors such as digestibility and overall animal performance,” says David.
Germinal products available through UMS include the highly regarded Aber High Sugar Grass (HSG) range, which encompasses the all-new diploid perennial ryegrass AberGreen AR1 and existing tetraploid perennial ryegrass AberGain AR1. The range has quickly gained a reputation for its improved digestibility, palatability, and increased nutritional values. It also recovers strongly between grazings, persists well, and tolerates heavy traffic when wet underfoot.
Also joining the UMS Germinal line up is the all-new red clover AberClaret which is a very productive, semi-upright clover providing excellent spring and summer growth. AberClaret will sit alongside Germinal’s popular white clover range including AberDance and AberNormous, as well as AberLasting, which is a caucasian white clover cross, offering the nutritive and N-fixing benefits of traditional white clover, combined with drought-tolerant rhizomatous root characteristics.
“We’re extremely pleased to have this ongoing strategic alliance with a like-minded family company. The synergy between Germinal and UMS means we can continue to provide a dynamic range of proprietary seed varieties for Australian farmers, backed up by customer service and technical expertise,” says David.
